You will be submitting your Weebly website URL and QR code on Canvas tonight. You can simply create a QR code by going to this website http://www.qr-code-generator.com/

Directions

Step 1. Create a google doc
Picture
Step 2. Copy and paste your URL onto the google doc --> It must be in this format http://_____.weebly.com
If you send me a URL that is incorrect (such as what only you see when you edit your website https://www.weebly.com/weebly/main.php --> that is INCORRECT!) If you send me the wrong URL, you will not get points for this assignment. I need the website URL that guests and other people should see. Look at the image to the left! http://_____.weebly.com <-- correct format

Step 3. Go to the QR code generator website and create a QR code. Copy and paste it into your google doc. http://www.qr-code-generator.com/

Step 4. Submit your google doc on Canvas.

Creating your weebly site - Please follow these specific directions!

Hi students!
For homework tonight, I would like for you to log-in to your weebly site and start personalizing it. You must do the following....

(1) Select a theme
(2) Create FIVE pages on your site: ABOUT ME // ELA BLOG // READING LOGS // SYMPOSIUM 2018 // WRITING PORTFOLIO
(3) Complete the "About Me" page of your site with information about yourself (please do NOT write personal information, such as your address, phone number, email address, etc...). Instead, you can write about your hobbies, interests, and your favorite quote. Be sure to include pictures (not of yourself unless your parents allow it).

You must have this completed by TUESDAY NIGHT. You will be submitting your URLs on Canvas on TUESDAY NIGHT. You will have time to work on this if you finish the test on Tuesday (during class) as well as Tuesday for homework. It is not due in class on Tuesday. It is due TUESDAY NIGHT.

1. FIRST, be sure to log-in using your username and password that I gave to you in class! You must go to https://students.weebly.com/ to log-in. We are not using the normal Weebly login. I have a teacher account so that I can keep track of all your work.

2. Next, you should create a domain name. Ms. Park prefers that your domain name is the same as your username. If you want to change it, please be sure to change it to something scholarly AND you must let Ms. Park know.
Picture
3. After you have created your domain name (which is going to be the name of the website, or your URL), then you can get started on designing your site!
Picture
*Don't forget to click "PUBLISH" after every change or edit. If you don't do this, weebly will NOT save anything you did. Ms. Park has made this mistake too many times where all her work (sometimes more than 30 minutes worth of work) is non-existent because she forgot to click PUBLISH. If I were you, I'd click publish every two minutes!
Picture
4. Change out the theme too! Simply go to the THEME tab/window on the top and then click on CHANGE THEME on the left side.

5. Then, be sure to CREATE FIVE ADDITIONAL PAGES (in addition to your home page) - Remember to spruce up your "About Me" page as it is outlined in the homework directions above.

Your five pages are:
- About Me
- ELA Blog
- Reading Log
- Symposium 2018
- Writing Portfolio

In order to create a new page, go to the pages tab on the top, and then click on the PLUS SIGN "+" to add a new page. To change the title of the page, simple click on the title, and rewrite the name of that page.

Growth Mindset Unit

8/15/2017

We are going to be starting a mini-unit on Growth Mindset. For this unit, you will be creating notes on your own, creating a poster + artifact with a group or partner, and finally reflecting on your own. Below, you'll find the directions for the project as well as a list of awesome resources. This resource list can also be found in our digital textbook.

GROWTH MINDSET PROJECT DIRECTIONS
With a group of 2-3 people, read and research as much as you can about the concept of the GROWTH MINDSET. Ms. Park will be posting several videos and resources on her website, learnpark.us that you can use to research, brainstorm, and jot down notes about. You must complete your OWN notes on at least one video and two articles. Then, with your group you are to view the concept of growth v. fixed mindset through ONE Gate Depth and Complexity Icon (colorful posters) and ONE content imperative (black and white posters). Don’t forget about the “new” icons as well. Your information should include textual evidence and support from the articles and videos you read, viewed, and researched. You must show your findings through a written format (this can be directly on your artifact, or separately attached and typed). You must also create a symbol, artifact, or illustration (2D or 3D) that captures what you wrote about and learned.

Part 1 - Growth Mindset Notes (from at least 1 video and 2 articles) - (individual) You can use any format of notes that you prefer (Cornell, Outline, Mind Map, etc…)

Part 2 - Written Component (group): View MINDSET through ONE icon and ONE imperative. Create a two paragraph (12+ sentences) written component explaining your ICON and IMPERATIVE about Mindset (i.e. multiple perspectives and contribution - you would be explaining the various perspectives, including criticisms about Mindset theory and how these multiple perspectives CONTRIBUTE to how people view mindset today, or how they view their own learning today.) You can show me your written work to get it proof-read and checked!

Part 3 - Artifact (group): Create an art piece, poster, painting, sculpture, booklet, flyer, shape, ANYTHING that illustrates and symbolizes the growth v. fixed mindset theory and your ICON + IMPERATIVE. We will discuss possible examples in class. Please remember that decoration for the sake of mere prettiness or illustrations that do not symbolize or express meaning do not count.

Due date - Thursday, August 24th, 2018

Part 4 is your group presentation! Please be ready to present your project in front of the class by August 24th and August 25th. You will be given class time to work on this project, but we will be doing other assignments as well. Please use your class time wisely and be productive!

Part 5 - Reflection (individual): You are going to be reflecting on what you learned. This is an individual assignment and will be posted on your "About Me" section of your Weebly sites. Ms. Park will give more detail and a separate due date for this assignment.

Welcome to a new school year, Mustangs!

I'm so excited to meet all of you and to be your English teacher this year. The first day of school can be full of all sorts of emotions and nerves. You may be anxious and nervous about your classes and teachers, but excited and happy to be reunited with your friends. You are now 8th graders, which means you are the leaders and role models that our younger mustangs will look up to. 8th grade is going to be a wonderful year full of awesome experiences and memories. I know that if you work hard, have a great attitude, and desire to be successful, you can all grow as scholars and individuals this year. I am so happy to have you in my class, and I know you'll visit this website often to stay up-to-date on assignments and everything that is going on in and out of the LearnPark classroom.

Sincerely,
Ms. Park
