What is the American Dream and how is it shaped by the world we live in?

How do writers, authors, poets, and people who have a voice use their platform to explore the idea of the American Dream?

What does the American Dream mean to you?

Socratic Seminar texts:
Any of the texts that we read throughout this unit are fine to use.
Non-fiction articles that should be used as textual evidence to support your discussion:

You can also use:
- MLK Speech Packet + Analysis
- Any of the 10 poems in your This American Life Poetry List
- Current events/news (yes, Kendrick Lamar, Kanye, etc... are okay as long as you use textual evidence, sources, and do not use foul language)
- Your own research

When composing your 3-5 questions in preparation for tomorrow's discussion, be sure to write Level 1 AND Level 2 Questions!

Level 1: Identification, comprehension, recall (these can include the questions I asked you for your first read on the MLK packet)
Level 2: Analysis (To What extent, contribution, ethics, impact, multiple perspectives, paradoxes, parallels - what movements create parallels or impact the idea of the American dream?, changes over time - what changes this dream over time?) - You may discuss racial injustice and hope, as many of the Harlem Renaissance poets and MLK did. Remember, they were conscious of despair, but they held fervently onto HOPE that there would be a brighter future.

Be sure to incorporate TEXTUAL EVIDENCE in your 3-5 questions! You may write them on paper or bring them electronically on a google doc. You may use your Chromebooks during the discussion. Textual Evidence is always the foundation of our Academic Discourse conversations! They will help you earn (+) points! Let's do this, 8th graders! See you tomorrow for yet another epic Academic Discourse session!

Period 1-2 students, if you come early (7:45 am) to help move the tables into a giant circle, Ms. Park will give you a chocolate/candy treat! =)

Comic arrangement are constantly fruitful and are exceptionally contributed. Wonder characters have been more popular than the others. These characters are well known among the individuals. Their motion pictures are astounding and cool to watch.
